Within minutes of arriving in our pens the countdown was on as the race got under way. Ed and Tom were gone, quick out the pens and flying round the course before the rest of us had crossed the start line. It was Ed’s first 10k race, being too young for previous years, he crossed the finish line in an amazing time of 36 minutes and 4 seconds! Tom was second of the team to cross the line in 48 minutes and 59 seconds. Tom is running the Manchester Marathon in a few weeks and we know he will smash it with that pacing!
The next 6 of the Diafora running team (Rob, Jodie, Chris, Phil, Ash and Dawn) crossed the line with times between 56 minutes and 36 seconds to 1 hour and 24 minutes. The times really don’t matter to us as together as a team we covered 80km (49.71 miles) in an astonishing 8 hours and 14 minutes, raising £1070 for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
We are incredibly proud of all our runners, from seasoned pros who take on marathons for fun to absolute first time runners, each and every one of you are superstars raising more than we ever dreamed of when we set out, for an amazing charity. Thank you to everyone that supported us it means so much that so many people got behind us to raise money for a well deserving charity.
There’s still time if you would like to support this cause, head over to the JustGiving page here.
Whilst some will be hanging up their running shoes, saying never again, others are already looking forward to the Derby 10K 2024. The question is can we convince any more of the Diafora team to join us next year?
